Quick answer: Match the arm’s reach and thread to your mic, prefer a clamped desk mount, and check the cable management and spring tension.
A boom arm gets the mic off the desk and into position, which does more for sound than any upgrade. For rgb setups, the right arm is quiet, rigid and reaches.

Reach and Mounting
Measure from where the arm clamps to where the mic needs to sit. A desk clamp is the standard mount; check your desk edge is thick enough to grip.
Thread and Mic Compatibility
Most mics use a 5/8″ thread that adapts to a boom arm; some USB mics have a built-in stand thread. Confirm before buying so the mic actually attaches.
Build and Cable Management
For rgb setups, internal cable routing and firm springs that hold position matter. A arm that sags under the mic’s weight defeats the purpose.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a boom arm or is the tripod fine?
The tripod puts the mic on the desk, where it picks up typing and forces it far from your mouth. A boom arm fixes both — it is the bigger audio upgrade.
Will a boom arm fit my mic?
Most dynamic and condenser mics use a standard thread that screws into an arm. Check the mic’s mount type and the arm’s thread match.
Clamp or freestanding base for rgb setups?
A clamp is more stable and saves desk space but needs a suitable edge. A weighted base works on glass or thin desks but occupies more room.
The bottom line
For rgb setups, a rigid arm that reaches and holds position is the point. Match the thread, clamp it well, and route the cable through.
