Quick answer: Elbows at roughly 90 degrees, wrists straight, monitor top at eye level, feet flat. Adjust the chair and monitor before buying anything.
Most desk discomfort is a height problem, not a gear problem. For work-from-home desks, getting the geometry right prevents the aches that make long sessions miserable.

Get the Chair Right First
Set seat height so your forearms are level with the desk and your feet rest flat. If your feet dangle, a footrest is a cheaper fix than a new chair and it changes your posture immediately.
Then the Monitor
The top of the screen should sit at or just below eye level, about an arm’s length away. A stand or arm is the fix if it is too low — and it frees desk space as a bonus.
Then the Input
Keyboard and mouse at the same height, close enough that your elbows stay near your sides. A wrist rest helps only if it keeps wrists straight, not bent upward.
Frequently asked questions
My wrists hurt after long sessions — what is wrong?
Usually the desk is too high or the keyboard is angled up. Lower the setup or flatten the keyboard so your wrists stay straight, not tilted.
Is a standing desk worth it for work-from-home desks?
Only if you will actually alternate. A sit-stand desk you never raise is an expensive fixed desk. Posture variety matters more than the desk type.
How far should the monitor be?
About an arm’s length. If you lean in to read text, it is too far or too small; if you turn your head to see the edges, it is too close.
The bottom line
For work-from-home desks, comfort is geometry, not equipment. Fix height and distance before spending on new gear.
